Nobody will forget this Tuesday 12 July 2022. In the forest of La Teste-de-Buch, near Dune du Pilat, a vehicle breaks down during the afternoon. As a result of an electrical failure, the vehicle
catches fire. Everything is dry, it hadn't rained for weeks and the temperature is 38°C. It's a blaze. The trees catch fire one after the other and the fire spreads. The unthinkable is
happening.
On the evening of 23 July 2022, 11 days later, the Gironde prefecture declares that the La Teste fire had finally been "fixed". 7000 hectares of forest, the five campsites near the dune and some
buildings burned down and thousands of people were evacuated for several days.
The access to the dune is closed until further notice.
